In fact, if you learn some basic principles, you<br \/>\ncan drive thousands of visitors to your website without<br \/>\nspending any money on advertising. Publishing articles not<br \/>\nonly establishes you as an expert in your chosen field, but<br \/>\nalso allows you to fly under the natural &#8220;radar defenses&#8221;<br \/>\nyour prospects have against advertising.<\/p>\n<p>But, beware! My experience as a syndicated newspaper<br \/>\ncolumnist has shown me that people who would otherwise<br \/>\nsucceed massively promoting with articles actually fail<br \/>\nbecause they consistently make one or more of these five<br \/>\ncritical mistakes!<\/p>\n<p>Mistake #1 &#8211; NOT Defining Your Target Audience<\/p>\n<p>Many article authors make the serious mistake of not<br \/>\nclearly defining a niche audience before writing their<br \/>\narticle. Successful article authors always know the exact<br \/>\n&#8220;niche&#8221; audience they want to reach before they write the<br \/>\nfirst word.<\/p>\n<p>When targeting your audience, remember this rule: Narrow<br \/>\nand Deep! Always pick an audience with a specific,<br \/>\npressing, or major interest in a narrow topic!<\/p>\n<p>Mistake #2 &#8211; Spamming Ezine Editors<\/p>\n<p>In their desire to cover as much ground as possible, many<br \/>\narticle authors resort to spam techniques for submitting<br \/>\ntheir articles. Instead of tightly targeting appropriate<br \/>\nezines that cater specifically to their audience, these<br \/>\nauthors try to hit &#8220;everyone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>By trying to save time, they actually waste every minute<br \/>\nspent writing their article because most ezine editors will<br \/>\njust delete their submissions as spam!<\/p>\n<p>Mistake #3 &#8211; Milktoast Topics<\/p>\n<p>You can write the best article in the world, but if your<br \/>\nheadline doesn&#8217;t grab a reader&#8217;s eyeballs and pull them<br \/>\ninto your article &#8211; you lose!<\/p>\n<p>Article authors should spend at least half as much time<br \/>\nwriting the headline as they spend writing their actual<br \/>\narticle.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, an &#8220;average&#8221; article can get superior results<br \/>\nsimply from having a great headline at the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>Mistake #4 &#8211; &#8220;What&#8217;s In It For Me&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If they manage to make it past the first 3 pitfalls, many<br \/>\narticle authors trip on their shoelaces at this stage of<br \/>\nthe process! Don&#8217;t write about what you want to write<br \/>\nabout, only write on topics of high interest to your target<br \/>\naudience.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, give them exactly what they want and they<br \/>\nwill love you.
